How is it that a once
influential party instrumental in
securing the country's independence, led once by leaders working solely for the people and
nation, by those who plotted the country's way into the industrialised world,
now have leaders who may well qualify for a 'frequent visitor' pass at the MACC
headquarters and lockup?

In America sometime in late 2008,
within an environment of economic uncertainty, three CEOs of the Big Three auto
companies, Ford, Chrysler and GM, flew into Washington DC each in private jets
to request for taxpayer bailout money.
Washington lawmakers promptly
lashed out at them. A New York Democrat said, "There is a delicious irony
in seeing private luxury jets flying into Washington DC, and people coming off
of them with tin cups in their hand, saying they are going to be trimming down
and streamlining their businesses."
"Couldn't you all have
downgraded to first class or jet pooled or something to get here? It would at
least sent a message that you do get it," he added during hearing of the
House Financial Services Committee.
Well, nothing really. This came
to my mind when I saw the picture of former Sec Gen of our Treasury arriving at
the courthouse in a very ordinary Perodua MyVi today.
I suppose at the very least, he
got it right somewhat. I shudder to think what picture would he be sending had
he arrived in a set of luxury wheels and in that infamous pair of red sneakers
of his.
